I'm forwarding an article from the cell-relay newsgroup (which
was originally posted to the ATM Forum mail exploder) about a
repository of MPEG traffic data. I hope it helps.

                   | MPEG-1 Frame Size Traces |
                    ---------------------------

Dear colleagues,
we have encoded several video sequences, like well-known movies, famous
sports events, etc., with an MPEG-1-encoder. The FRAME SIZE TRACES of
these encoded sequences can be found on our ftp server:

   ftp-info3.informatik.uni-wuerzburg.de

in the directory:

   /pub/MPEG

Our intention to make these traces publicly available by anonymous ftp
is to encourage researchers to use them for statistical purposes or
for the performance analysis of communication networks carrying video
traffic. At the moment, only a few, in most cases rather short, traces
are available. We hope that a lot of colleagues will profit from these
new data sets.

More information about the sequences can be found in the READ.ME file
in the MPEG directory and in the PostScript file in the MPEG/docs
directory.

The most frequently asked questions about our ftp server are:

1. How can I access this server?

   Just type: ftp ftp-info3.informatik.uni-wuerzburg.de
As soon as you get an answer, please type: ftp
And your own email address as password: my_email_address
To get in the right directory, use: cd pub/MPEG
To obtain the READ.ME file: get READ.ME

2. The server refuses to establish a connection. What shall I do?

The number of users of the ftp server is restricted to a fairly
small number. Therefore, you should try to connect again some
minutes later, hoping that one of the users left the the server.

3. I cannot uncompress the files with ".gz" suffix. What shall I do?

Our ftp server is able to uncompress gz files on the fly. If you
want to get the compressed file "dummy.gz", you should type:
     get dummy.gz

If you want to get the uncompressed file (which contains more data!),
   please type:
     get dummy

I hope that about 99.9% of the questions are answered now, but in case
of trouble, please let me know.
