ATM Benchmarking

        Hello

I'm going to do some Benchmarking with our ATM Testbed
(LS 1010 and 2 * Sparc Ultra 1, 2 * PCs)

1. I'm looking for reasonably Test and Benchmarking tools.
2. I've problems with the 'netperf' tool.

1. Are there some Benchmarking suites, e.g. made of some
real Applications? I'm not sure if just testing
the linespeed (or device driver speed :-) says much
about the usefulness of the Network for the "every day work".

There exists a lot of papers which describe speed test with
'ttcp' or 'netperf'.
Up to now I've tried 'ttcp' and 'ftp' :-) using CIP with SVC
(setup by UNI 3.0) on a 155Mbit/s line.

- ttcp: (standart parameters)
    TCP: 102 Mbit/s
    UDP: 132 Mbit/s
- ftp: (transfering a file of nearly 11 Mbyte)
    8 Mbit/s !!!

Is this just a problem of the 'ftp' application?
Or is this a typical result for a standart application?

2. I've problems with 'netperf' on a Solaris 2.5.x Machine
using a 'gcc' compiler: after runnig netserver and netperf
nothing(!) will happen :-( not even a core dump. Does anybody
knows a solution for this problem.

I wanted to use 'netperf' because it supports the Fore API
(we have Fore NICs). I would like to test the Net performance using
CIP (or LANE) in comparision with the direct use of the
ATM API. (I estimate that sending bulk data will not make
considerable differences)

Thanks in advance
