TCP over ATM question

Hi there,

I am wondering what will happen if the TCP source is sending data with
much higher rate than the underlying ABR source that is responsible for
sending the TCP traffic to the ATM network. This can happen due to the
congestion control mechanism used for ABR service.

I know there must be a kind of buffer, but how large is the buffer? and
how does this affect the performance of the TCP source?

Is there any study that addresses this issue in details?
