Funi and ATM-DXI (fwd)

  I work at Petrobras (a Brazilian Oil Company) and I'm doing my
  MSc in computer science.
  The subject that I'm involved with now is ATM DXI and FUNI. As I
  have some doubts, I decided to send this e-mail in order to have some
  comments about them.
  The questions are:

        Reading "The ATM Forum Data Exchange Interface (DXI)
  Secification - August 1993" and "The Frame based User-to-Network
  Interface (FUNI) Specifications v 1.0 - September 1995", I didn't
  understand:

1) In the case of ATM DXI Mode 1b processing the AAL3/4, what is the
reason for including the AAL3/4 CPCS in the DTE and not in the DCE? (I
have noticed that in the case of Mode 1a and 1b over AAL 5, the AAL CPCS
is included in the DCE.). This question is extended to FUNI v1.0 (and 
recently v2.0), as the encapsulation is similar.


2) In the case of ATM DXI Mode 2, what is the reason for specifying the
AAL3/4 CPCS even if the Mode 2 is operating over AAL5?
