it possible to somehow make adapter cards compatible to 94 as well as 96
specs?

Hello Jayant,
There is no single standard for the optical link between two ATM
equipments. The operating wavelength and power depends on the type of
fiber and distance on the link. The "94 spec" UNI 3.1 allowed for a
SONET links for long distances (up to 30 km) and a MMF link (Par 2.4)
for operation up to 2 km. The MMF link used 1300 nm and 8B/10B coding.
The "96 spec" af-phy-0062 was standardized to allow a very low cost
MMF
link to be implemented. Distances up to 1 km are allowed and simple NRZ
coding and SONET scrambling are used. The wavelength is
800 nm nominal.
The adapter cards would not be expected to meet both specs.
I hope this is some help.
