The only real difference in the overhead for STM1 and STS3c is one of the SSbits in the H1 byte. These are set to 10 in STM1 and 00 on STS3c. most equipment ignores these bytes anyways so you should not have any interoperability problems however some (mostly older) equipment may give you a 'loss of pointer' alarm. Should not affect your traffic however.
