The problem is, how to identify, which ATM cells belong to the
same AAL frame. In AAL5, for example, the cells belonging to an
AAL frame are transmitted after each other on a VC, and only
one is marked, which is the last cell. This means, when merging
to incoming VCs into one outgoing VC (called VC merging...)
you cannot just mix the ATM cells. A way to solve this, is to
use buffers, but these things (as far as I know) are quite new
issues. Anyway, it seems, that in the near future it will be 
possible.
