You can probably look at the following paper -

 vol. 78, no. 1, pp 133-166, Jan 1990.

*Although it is a very old paper but it gives excellent introduction.

Ellen Witte Zegura, ``Architectures for  ATM Switching Systems," 
IEEE Communications Magazine, pp 28-37, Feb. 1993.
