Also in the DSL world, you should expect to see PPP over AAL5 from home
devices up to Broadband Access Servers (BASs), and L2TP over AAL5 across
the carrier nets, between the BASs and ISPs.  Running ATM to the home
allows for multiple services, e.g. a CBR pipe between the carrier and a
non-IP device.  Running L2TP between the BAS and the ISP allows you to
multiplex up the thousands, or at least hundreds, of sessions which will
be running between that BAS and that particular ISP.
