Sprint's ATM based ION

Hello All.

I have a couple of questions regarding Sprint's new Integrated On-Demand
Network (ION). I am not sure if this is the right place to ask the questions;
I haven't been able to find a newsgroup on US service providers. If you know
of a better place where I should ask, please tell me!

My understanding is that the ION platform will be largely based on ATM
technology. But this is effectively all that I know. I have the following
questions:

- Is ATM technology being used only as a backbone network technology, with
edge devices being something else (e.g., routers for data and
circuit-switches for voice), or is ATM intended to be used all the way to the
local exchange?

- How will voice be carried in that ION platform? Will it be voice over ATM
(using e.g., AAL1 or AAL2) or voice over IP?

- Will the ATM platform also be used to provide QoS for other real-time
applications such as videoconferencing (including ATM signalling such as
developed by the ATM Forum), or will the offering of such advanced multimedia
applications all be based on IP technologies?

That's all. BTW, I am from a manufacturer, and not a competitive service
provider!

Simon
