comp.dcom.vpn Virtual Private Network Technology.
This vote was conducted by a neutral third party. Questions about the

Proponent: Mathew Vangel <mvangel@mvangel.com>
Votetaker: Jim Davis <jjd@primenet.com>
RATIONALE: comp.dcom.vpn
Virtual Private Networking provides individuals the means to have
secure encrypted connections through their local inexpensive unsecure
ISP (Internet Service Provider) connection. This may eliminate the
need for more expensive point-point leased lines, and save the user
network management costs for these lines which now the ISP will
maintain and manage. Remote Access Users can now use any (ISP)
connection and benefit from data confidentiality. As this new
technology moves towards vendor inter-operability using IPSEC and
certificate servers, VPN Users will need a medium to exchange testing
results and questions about using voice and computer data with VPN
Technology. This proposed newsgroup is that medium for the novice as
well as the network engineer, so that this exchange of technical
information may assist in future or current network topology
enhancements.
CHARTER: comp.dcom.vpn
Comp.dcom.vpn is an unmoderated group for the discussion of
all aspects related to VPN (Virtual Private Network) Technologies.
These discussions will include testing procedures, comparison data,
operational questions, vendor features, and security issues using VPN
Technology.

proponent, which will be posted in this newsgroup. There will be
a Internet Website provided by the proponent to archive and
propagate VPN Documentation.
This group would NOT include For Sale or Wanted To Buy postings.

that they are relevant to the above topics, kept as brief as possible,
and only posted once. Lists of recordings for sale, whether by private
sale or by shop, mail-order etc, are not acceptable. A brief pointer
describing where such a list or catalogue is available, would be
acceptable. Postings likely to be of regular interest (e.g. a brief
pointer to a label's web site) may be posted more than once, but not
more often than once per calendar month, and not at all if the
information is already posted regularly in some other form e.g. a
Frequently Asked Questions posting.
Discussions should only be posted or cross-posted to comp.dcom.vpn
where they relate to issues of interest to this newsgroups participants.
Neither the group proponent nor any posters to comp.dcom.vpn shall be
held responsible for the accuracy of articles posted therein. Opinions
expressed are those of the authors alone.
