  I think that I do know to what you are referring.  I have had a switch
trash some IP packets due to SAR chip problems(this generally makes the IP
guys mad!) In Segmentation and Reasembly (AAL5), the PDU has a 32byte CRC
added to the end of the PDU before it is segmented into cells, on reassembly
this CRC is checked.  I don't have the docs in front of me but you might
look at the SAR process for your answer.
