Hello, As for the chronology of the UTOPIA standard by ATM Forum: 1. SCI-PHY(Saturn Compatible Interface for ATM devices) (1993) 2. UTOPIA Level 1 (1994) 3. SCI-PHY Level 2 (1995) 4. UTOPIA Level 2 (1995-1996) Then POS-PHY(SCI for POS devices), used SCI-PHY and Utopia Level 2 standards as the basis. Indeed, POS-PHY defines the i/f between SONET/SDH PHY and link layer devices, which can be used to implement several packet-based protocols like HDLC and PPP. However, SCI-PHY is the interface for ATM devices, which is very similar to UTOPIA i/f. You can find detaild info about both of the i/f doc. in www.pmc-sierra.com.
