Leslie,

A "folded" Sonet Ring or sometimes called collapsed ring is where one or
more of the nodes on the ring pass
thru the same wire center or sonet equipment.   For maximum protection, you
want to make sure that all of the nodes
does not share a common piece of sonet gear or wire center.  Sometimes
carriers do this because they do
not have diverse fiber routes.

For example, if you have a Sonet ring consisting of 6 nodes, A > F.  In a
Sonet Ring none of these nodes
