Proxy signalling

Hello Everybody,

I am new in this list, so perhaps this topic has been already discussed.

I would like to know if it is possible to separate the signalling path
from the data path.

Actually the users are connected to the ATM network via a satellite
link. Gateways are
the access points to the terrestial network. Evidently, the gateway
contain an ATM
switch. There are several gateways and therefore several access points.

Signalling is always sent to the same gateway, but traffic is routed to
optimise the
allocation of bandwidth. This means that the signalling gateway must
establish a connection
to convey data through a different gateway. Data will pass directly from
the chosen gateway
to the user via the satellite link.

I have been reading the ATM UNI signalling version 4.0. Perhaps the
proxy signalling
capability can be used. Am I wrong?

If somebody could help me ...

Thank you very much,

Luis Montesano
