Centillion 100 advice needed-- trying to set up home network

HARDWARE:
=========
Current system: Home network with a 4 port linksys hub. 'Uplink'
port is plugged into a FreeBSD server via a cross over cable (built by
a friend). The FreeBSD server is plugged into the cable modem.

Goal system: Set up my home network with a Centillion 100 to replace
the 4 port linksys hub. The Centillion 100 details are-- Centillion
100 Chassis w/ dual power supply, an ATM switch card, a token ring
card, two 16 slot T10 etherport and a 4 slot T10/100 etherport. (I
bought the Centillion from a friend who is moving)

TASK:
=====
I know that a Centillion 100 may be overkill, however, I am trying to
learn about ATM switches and networking (a hobby, not a full time gig
). I cannot figure out what part of the Centillion 100 I should be
using for my 'uplink'. I'm not going to list out all of the silly
thing that I have done to try an get this working-- lets just say that
I have learned a bit and I can find my way around the CLI and know a
few of the commands such as enet.

ISSUES:
======
1) What card should the 'uplink' from my FreeBSD server be plugged
into? Do I need a normal or cross over cable? Is this even do-able
(god, I sure hope it is as I have sent way too much time on this is it
is!)

2)  I moved the first 16 slot T10 etherport from bay 3 to 4 and now I
get a message 'card is initializing.' When un-seeding and re-seeding
a card in one of the 6 bays, do I need to change the configuration in
any way?

3) I have had a real hard time finding info on this, is there any
real good sources to search that I should look at next time? Only
thing I have found are links to courses and pdf files with little info
(get the same info from CLi help files!)

Thanks in advance for the help-- you will have my eternal gratitude!
