Just to clarify that

IP packets are encapsulated into ATM adaptation layer frames. The
frames are then segmented into cells according to the aal type that is
used.

The reason I bring it up is that very simplistic accounts of ATM often
omit AAL frames leading to confusion.I've even seen accounts that
state that ATM has an MTU of 48, leaving the impression that ip
fragmentation is used to fill cells.
