Title : Transient Neighbors for IPv6 over ATM
Author(s) : G. Armitage
Filename : draft-armitage-ion-tn-00.txt
Pages : 11
Date : 06/07/1996
This document is a revision of a model for IPv6 over ATM that was presented
to a joint session of the IPATM, IPNG, and ROLC working groups in March
1996. The model attempts to allow conventional host-side operation of the
Neighbor Discovery protocol, while also supporting the establishment of
'cut through' ATM routes. This is achieved through the use of Redirects to
create Transient Neighbors, IPv6 protocol operation within the IPv6 Logical
Link Group, and partial NHRP for location of off-Link destinations. The
egress router detects flows that are suitable candidates for cut-through,
uses NHRP to locate a better link level first hop, and then issues a
Redirect message to the source.

NOTE: The mail server at ds.internic.net can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e., documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
how to manipulate these messages.
