The IP over ATM Mailing List Archive by date[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next] [Date Index][Thread Index][Author Index][Subject Index] one tcp per vc ???
Uh, folks, I think this discussion is getting a bit arcane. For instance, the notion of classifying a TCP connection with traffic parameters like PCR, SCR and MBS. In general, TCP will adapt to whatever parameters you give it -- so the problem isn't mapping TCP requirements (except for the general notion that interactive stuff like FTP and TELNET and MOSAIC want more bandwidth than background stuff like SMTP), it is figuring out what your local allocation policy is. [And note that ATM's allocation policy is cumbersome in a LAN context -- in a LAN the desired rule you want is -- if no one else is using the link, you get all of it, otherwise you get an equal share -- once ABR service is available, that's clearly what TCP should use]. I think the real problem is mapping a UDP/IP multicast session carrying video into appropriate ATM parameters. Craig |
