This message is to announce a BOF session on Integrated PNNI to be held
at the IETF on Tuesday evening, March 5th, from 7:30pm to 10pm. The BOF
is in the routing area of the IETF, with Joel Halpern as area director.

The primary purpose of the BOF is to introduce Integrated PNNI, and
to discuss means for coordination and cooperation between the ATM
Forum and the IETF in the standardization of I-PNNI.

The BOF will include a brief overview of Integrated PNNI. I-PNNI is a
proposal to make use of ATM PNNI routing as a single routing protocol
to be used (where appropriate) in an IP over ATM environment in order
to (i) calculate routes for ATM SVCs, (ii) calculate routes for IP
packets; and (iii) in some cases help in the determination of when to
set up SVCs for the purposes of supporting IP over ATM flows. I-PNNI
is compatible with standard IP over ATM, and with the MPOA standard
being worked on in the ATM Forum. I-PNNI also interworks with / makes
use of NHRP where appropriate. The details of this will be discussed
at the BOF. We will discuss the possibility of using I-PNNI for QOS
routing even when no ATM is present.

Preliminary work on standardization of I-PNNI is just beginning in
the ATM Forum. However, it is highly desirable that this work be
closely coordinated with the IETF. We will therefore discuss the
manner in which this coordination and cooperation should take place.
