This is the one we have to get right first time! (along with MCS<->client).

This one we can afford to make a few mistakes on, although it would
be nice if it supported redundancy, at least, if not load-sharing.

Is this relevant to the MARS<->client and/or MCS<->client interfaces?
Or is it just MARS<->MCS? (I guess I'd better go figure that one
out myself).
