   Just to clarify here, I presume you are using 'layer 3' to
   refer to a device that is aware of AAL_SDU boundaries?
   (I only mention this because the minimal MCS in the MARS model
   doesn't need to be aware of _what_ is contained in the AAL_SDUs
   it is reflecting - IPv4, IPv6, whatever, and so on some accounts
   is perhaps more layer 2ish [on the basis that its really an
   AAL layer reflector].)

i would like to do the merging the flows at layer 2 so that the function
is independent of a layer 3 protocol.  if mcs operates on aal_sdus, then
it seems to be doing the right thing.  my question to you is, if atm
forum one day would define aal_sdu aware mp-to-p atm connections in
addition to the current p-to-p and p-to-mp connections, would mcs still
be needed?
