There is a nice proposal in

that avoids all problems with interleaving. The proposal defines a protocol
entirely in the ATM layer for performing many to many communication along a
multicast tree, without any VPCs. The proposal solves interleaving but also
controls the access to the multicast tree to avoid traffic congestion, much
in the way a MAC protocol would do if it were on a ring or bus instead of a
tree.
