Actually, the point I was trying to make is that the stuff above points to a clear trend: the Internet knows it has to change to do those things that a native ATM, in theory, would do well. Huge address space, reserved path, QoS guarantees, and the IntServ vernacular which is stolen from ISDN (ergo BISDN & ATM). After having said that ATM is more likely to change than IP, Masataka had joked that some feel IP is just another protocol too.
