Hi All, This is my entry into the discussion group, I am a little confused in the following areas. My understanding is that MPLS VPN's can be offered as an alternate to Frame Relay services, with the same kind of data privacy, & performance on an IP backbone. My question pertains to how each individual VPN is allocated bandwidth guarantess, similar to Frame Relay CIR. 1. Can a VPN be configured for guaranteed bandwidth. Say a VPN between two Sites being configured for 2 Mbps guarnteed bandwidth, or else is it only configured on an aggregate basis (ie for all VPN's aggregated on the PE router). Because if it is not configurable on a per VPN basis, There would be no policing on traffic while oversubscribing trunks like what is possible on Frame-Relay (DE). 2. When RSVP is used to achieve traffic engineering, & if a tunnel is configured for a reservation of 10 Mbps bandwidth, & say none of the traffic engineered paths on the network has the requested bandwidth, will RSVP initiate some kind of policing on the existing traffic that is using up the bandwidth, or will it just fail. Kindly advice, With regards, Vinod. |
