Hi Danny, I'm with Robin here... I think it would be unwise to run anything other than AAL5, packet-based services on a CoS network because CoS is probablistic. In other words, CoS improves your chances that no contention will occur, but does not eliminate them. Non-packet services are likely to carry with them a high availability requirement, and so loss of service due to that "once a month" congestion problem will be significant. One session-loss will blow your uptime numbers for the year, and some operations folks are paid bonus on uptime numbers :-) Cheers, Geoff At 09:55 17/03/01 -0700, Danny McPherson wrote: > > >> I trust their delay and jitter requirements are low if they propose using >> CCC seriously? > >Why? > >> ie they dont require circuit based services that are not >> tolerant of even small delay variation. > >Why not, IP or MPLS with the appropriate CoS-based QoS (or NONE >if there's no contention in the network) can provide these >services? > >-danny > >------- >The MPLS-OPS Mailing List >Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://www.mplsrc.com/mplsops.shtml >Archive: http://www.mplsrc.com/mpls-ops_archive.shtml > ================================================================ Geoff Bennett Tel: (33) 497 21 43 62 Director, Office of the CTO Fax: (33) 497 21 43 50 Marconi Gaia - Bat.
