A quick clarification. My specific interest is in FEC classification for media protocols that use dynamic ports for transporting data streams (i.e. static port number-based rules won't work). If traffic coming in over a last mile link to a provider network consists of a range of protocols and if a provider wants to have the LER provide a FEC classfication for only a specific protocol coming over this link(e.g. SIP), how would this be accomplished? Do LERs typically support application proxy-like functionality to provide application protocol-based FEC classification? Even if such functionality is supported, is it optimum to use application-based rules on an LER (i.e. only a very small proportion of traffic traversing an LER may satisfy such a classfication).
