i dont think anyone will dump IP.....with MPLS-RSVP-TE etc etc developing, IP can replace a lot of circuit switched technologies now.... Nortel is one of the best guys for switching (extreme looks good too....)....and their ethernet profile is pretty good... The amount of stuff they have done in L4 switching and the way they have redesigned their MSS and 15k etc, Meridian, Norstar BCM...seems good too.... but in terms of VOIP, SDH, Carrier class etc... they have always given great solutions.. ERX...Ive never worked on it so i dunno the limitations.....but Shasta...definately is good.... Cosine..hmm..... need to check that out too....never played on it... Wonder what ERX plans to move into? DSL exclusively? rgds Alok ----- Original Message ----- From: NOC Ops <theguber@hotmail.com> To: <alok.dube@apara.com>; <asimha@cisco.com>; <balaji.c@ntt.com> Cc: <mpls-ops@mplsrc.com> Sent: Friday, August 30, 2002 2:06 PM Subject: Re: [MPLS-OPS]: Outbound Internet Connectivity !!! Do not bank on the ERX as an Edge Device anymore...Thsi is what I got from some recent ex-employees: The ERX is being positioned and focused going forward strictly as a BRAS, with the M-series focused on edge routing. Of course this development is at odds with the very successful "one box solution" story that UNI pitched. Internally the plan is for no new development of edge routing features on the ERX. Nortel/Shasta - yeah maybe technically...but do you think Nortel might dump IP again soon? Cosine is the other box to look at that does it very well. >From: "alok" <alok.dube@apara.com> >To: "Ajay Simha" <asimha@cisco.com>, "Balaji Chandrasekaran" ><balaji.c@ntt.com> >CC: <mpls-ops@mplsrc.com> >Subject: Re: [MPLS-OPS]: Outbound Internet Connectivity !!! >Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2002 12:44:13 +0530 > >look at Shasta ;o) >or Unisphere > >2 nice products to cater to the same >-rgds >a >----- Original Message ----- >From: Ajay Simha <asimha@cisco.com> >To: Balaji Chandrasekaran <balaji.c@ntt.com> >Cc: <mpls-ops@mplsrc.com> >Sent: Friday, August 30, 2002 8:30 AM >Subject: Re: [MPLS-OPS]: Outbound Internet Connectivity !!! > > >On Fri, 30 Aug 2002, Balaji Chandrasekaran wrote: > > >BC:Hello, > >BC: > >BC:Is there any Service Provider who is providing or planning to provide > >BC:Outbound Internet Connectivity Service. > >Sure.
