Moti, to answer your question generally, as long as the PEs can
"see" each other with an IP connection, you can run MPLS and
MPLS VPNs between them almost regardless of what is in between. Not true
in every case, but mostly. The IOS on the PE routers has to support what
you need for what you are going to do of course (e.g. MP-BGPv4 for MPLS
VPNs). Any intermediate switches have to be able to support
larger-than-normal packets ("giants"). By example, a single
MPLS label adds 32 bits to an Ethernet frame and if an intermediate
switch can't deal with that and/or the packet is marked Don't Fragment,
the packet will be dropped.

Is it correct that I can implement MPLS-VPN on a network
which does not run MPLS. PE--PE uses GRE tunnels and only PE
routers are configured with MPLS-VPN. l Labels are used only in order to
identify the VPN interface (CE) .
Does anybody have any experience with implementing such a
network?
