ATM Inverse Multiplex Access is a way to logically bond multiple T1s
together. So, instead of having the choice of buying a single
T1 or going up to a full DS3, you can buy essentially fractional DS3 ATM
service.
It varies as to where the crossover point is relative to price.
With some providers, it is more expense to get IMA than a full DS3
ATM circuit looking at $ per megabit after you reach 8 T1s. For
other carriers the crossover point is less. Gotta shop
around.
Unless your running voice or video, i'd just stick with Frame
Relay.

If you are
happy with Frame Relay as the last mile today why not stick with that.
Gives you some flexibility if you want to have a PVC that is not MPLS
too.

Subject: [MPLS-OPS]: Connections to a facility

Greetings,
We are in the process of converting our network from mostly
frame-relay to MPLS. Our Service Provider asked us what the connection to
our facility will ride over. They recommended the following options:
T1-times-n, DS-3, Ethernet or Inverse ATM.
Does anyone know what Inverse ATM is? Also, if you had a choice of
how to bring a connection into your facility, what would be your
chose?
Thanks in advance for your responses
