It depends on the need.

If you are a service provider need to deploy an MPLS VPN service across
other SPs, then you will need the Multi AS format.

If you are giving the service by your own then there is no need to use
more than one AS.

The main different is that you need to configure your border PE router
to advertise prefixes to his IBGP peers with "next hope self" command so
they will forward the traffic though it. This because a special behavior
of IBGP.

hello all...would like to procure some feedback from the operational
community...here is my question - 

when implementing a global IP network to provide rfc2547bis type VPNs,
is it better to utilize a consolidated (and sole) public AS or multiple
public ASs...experience with pros and cons of each solution is very
welcome...
