There's not hard limit. It depends mainly on your MTU, link speed and delay budget. The common recommendation for LFI is to apply it on links 768k and lower. The recommended target for the serialization delay is typically 10 msec. You may apply it to higher speeds for lower delays, but remember that LFI introduces additional overhead to be processed and transmitted. It's a trade off. Your LFI considerations should be independent of the service you buy (layer 3 or layer 2). Cheers.
