I wouldn't recommend trying it on a 1700 :-)

On a more practical note, even high-end platforms like the 6500/7600
have known limitations here (TCAM size of 256k entries limiting size
of routing table).

Routers which depend purely on routing in software (eg. the 7200
series) should be fine given enough memory.
