hi Sid,

First of all I would not use routing word in the Layer 2
VPN. May be my view might be very narrow to ethernet
as Layer 2, another assumption is that the provider n/w is
MPLS enabled.

Probably a word like learning shall be appropriate. Actually,
what happens is that whole of the provider network becomes
a kind of bridge and does adaptive learning. Something as follows:

      site3 site5
             \ /
               \ /
Site1 ----- MPLS enabled Provider N/w ----- Site2
                / \
              / \
       site4 site6

so when first frame is sent over the Provider Network then
then it shall be flooded to all sites and later on the basis of from
which site/segment the frame came in, it will learn all this and
update its bridging table (if i can call it so).

So, this is how learning shall take place in the layer 2 VPN
and no routing :-))

Thanks & Regards
Tarun B

Hi Tarun,

my question is How routing decisions are made in layer 2 vpn? Will there be
a pre established LSP?

Regards,
Sid
