Hi Abishek,

Fair question. Support for your particular hardware and feature set requirements can get tricky.
I have only the experience of building one production network using MPLS-VPN, so I do not know it all. And I do not disagree with what has been recommended, however I do suggest that if you have a support contract with Cisco that you *lean* on them a little bit for the answer.
My one experience with MPLS-VPN was that the technology turned out to be a lot easier than getting the appropriate IOS recommendation from Cisco, however. Ultimatel we were left on our own to figure out a solution. This is NOT a slagging session (although it might sound a bit like it :>). Complications arose for us because we were using VoIP to trunk between P(A)BX's (via 3660's), a well as using NM-1E's (3660/3640/3620 as PE) for MPLS-VPN ingress/egress. It isn't always as simple as which IOS and router model to use, I'm sorry to report. Do you have hardware to lab a test scenario for yourself ? If not, my recomendation is to get the vendor to prove the software/hardware combination can support your requirements prior to paying for IOS/Memory (or for that matter, chassis) upgrades.

best wishes to all,

Dana

Hi Abhishek

You can use any of the following IOS like 12.0(25)S1 or 12.0(26)S for your Cisco 7513. Both are suitable and relaible for MPLS (L-2 and L-3 ) services. I have tested these IOS.

For cisco 3660 , you can use 12.1 (19). It is also tested one for MPSL.

Also, you can serach for suitabel IOS on cisco site through feature Navigator , who suits your other requirements with MPLS.

Subject: [MPLS-OPS]: MPLS enabled IOS for Cisco Router

Hi,

We are in process to deploy MPLS in our Network.
As of now we are using OSPF as a IGP and BGP as a EGP in our network. We have already design the network for MPLS backbone.
In addition to this we have upgraded our Cisco-Router Hardware also.
As of now we have 7513 , 3660 Series router with 256 MB DRAM + RSP4 in 7513 Router and 256 MB DRAM in 3660 router.

Now the concern is , we need to upgrade IOS which should MPLS enable. Can you suggest us the reliable MPLS enabled CISCO-IOS for 7513 and 3660 series router.

3660 Router will be used a s a PE router and 7513 will be used for P routre.

As of now we have
For CISCO 7513 Router :

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 11.1(8)CA1, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc
1)
BOOTFLASH: RSP Software (RSP-BOOT-M), Version 12.0(8)S, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE
 SOFTWARE (fc1)

cisco RSP4 (R5000) processor with 262144K/2072K bytes of memory.

 IOS Version <rsp-pv-mz.121-8a.E4.bin>

20480K bytes of Flash PCMCIA card at slot 0 (Sector size 128K).
8192K bytes of Flash internal SIMM (Sector size 256K).

For CISCO 3660 Router :

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.0(6r)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

IOS Version : <c3660-ik8s-mz.122-3.bin>

16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can any one suggest us the reliable and suitable IOS image as well as Boot Strap Image for both the series router.

Thanks in advance.
