Dear Devendra

I am sure, this posting will definitely suggest you some Books, however I would like to share my thoughts as follows.

The Addressing normally is decided based on following.

a. The Number of Locations; like we can allocate set of contiguous block for each such location.

b. Need for Route Aggregation; like for BGP (iBGP with RRs). We should try to summarize blocks for each specific Internet peering & make best possible route summarization (barring redundancy, where you may have situation to advertise /24 as well).

c. Type of Service (Like ONLY VOIP & ONLY DATA etc.) & Based on Peering i.e. Internet Paths.

d. It is good to assign separate blocks for WAN IPs, provided all external peering (Internet) for all blocks remain through same/common exit point. In case if there are multiple exit points and customer's traffic is to be routed from different specific exit/peer point, it will be better to assign LAN & WAN IP from same block instead assigning different WAN block, this helps in operation/customer handling etc. In case LAN/WAN follows same path to & from Internet

e. You should define separate blocks (smaller then /24 or /24 based on present & future needs) for your Data Center/NOC(for each NOC/Data Center)

f. Loopback IP should be out of your assigned NOC Blocks and possible use common numbering scheme, like you can reserve a range say x.y.z.64/28 or x.y.z.64/29(based on number of loopback required).

Just few thoughts …. & Wish you cool Network Planning.

Shail
