Behrooz,

Either of the two links or a Google search will through up more papers than
you could possibly read in a year, such as:
http://whitepapers.informationweek.com/rlist/term/MPLS-(Multiprotocol-Label-
Switching).html

However a couple of good ones for the basics are:
http://www.netcraftsmen.net/welcher/papers/mplsintro.html

If you have access to Cisco equipment:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/105/mpls_faq_4649.shtml
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/105/mpls_vpn_basic.html
http://www.cisco.com/global/EMEA/networkers/break_routing.htm

The high level concepts are pretty easy to understand, once you get into the
traffic engineering, fast-reroute mechanisms and LDP it becomes more
difficult. Every vendor has their own way of doing even the standard stuff.
I'm also the leader of the MPLS User Group (MUG) of the MPLS and Frame-relay
Alliance, which is yet to be fully launched but is looking to provide
information to Enterprise users of the technical and business benefits of
MPLS (IP VPN) technology. Membership is currently based around, vendor,
service provider and enterprise but I have been pushing for an academic
entry level. Would this be of interest to you or your University, as the
more positive support I get the more likelihood it has of happening

Yours

Doug
