Free MARS (no, its not an interplanetary resistance movement) To assist in the development of IP/ATM interfaces that can support IP multicast over ATM, Bellcore is releasing code for the server side of the MARS protocol - the MARS itself. It can be obtained by anonymous FTP from: ftp.bellcore.com in /pub/gja/mars/pubmars09qf.tar.Z Once compiled in an appropriate environment, this code will behave as a 'mostly compliant to ipmc-09' MARS. (As a bonus, it will simultaneously behave as a 'mostly compliant' ATMARP Server as well.) So what are the catches? - This is a research prototype. Its free. It's elegance and robustness may reflect this :) - The core of the MARS is only being released in object code form. In addition, I've only provided SunOS4.1.4 based object code for this first release. I plan on doing a Solaris version "sometime soon", and for other platforms as resources and demand allow. - Source code is provided for the sections of the MARS that do signalling and ATM NIC specific actions. The supplied code assumes Bellcore's Q.Port and FORE's ForeThought 3.0.1 API. Documentation is provided to enable the development of interfaces to alternative signalling stacks or ATM APIs. This effort was funded in part by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA).
