There is an IBM whitepaper I have seen on the subject and something out of
the ATM Forum about 25mb ATM vs FE. Off the top of my head I would say
that FDDI is decent but expensive, Fast Etherent is cheap but lacks QoS,
and ATM is new (but maturing) and has QoS and scalability (OC3, OC12,
etc.). 

For a backbone I would select ATM. Don't know if I can wait for Gigabit
Ethernet:-)
