Interoperability of ATM equipment

Hallo.

I recently succeeded in making Fore VMA-200 adapter in SGI Challenge DM
and Bay Networks' Centillion 100 to work together including LANE (you
have to get a new version of VMA for IRIX if you face errors in your
LEC contacting LECS and/or LES -- thanks to Matthew Moyle-Croft).
Everything seemed to work fine, only fragmented data are not going
through when using LAN emulation.

This is a piece of our network:

		Challenge DM, IRIX 5.3, Fore's VMA-200
				|
				|
C 100 with four ATM ports --- this link is not
				|	| interesting
				|	|
				|	|
		SparcStation 10 Bay's Ethercell
		Solaris 2.4, SunATM | | |
						Ethernet clients

There seems to be a problem with eg. ping -s 7000 from that Challenge.
If I ping that Sun on the ATM, it works just fine. When I ping any of
that Ethernet hosts, it doesn't work. However it works when the length
is lower than 1500 so that it doesn't need to be fragmented. Tcpdump
on that ethernet shows that some of the fragments will not get through.
Also the Ethercell complains when I ping it with more than 1500.

And now, why I think there is problem with that Fore adapter in SGI.
When I do the exact thing from the Sun, it works OK.

I tried all the possible settings on that Challenge (there are not
many of them ;-) and also checked the configuration for the C100 and
did not find anything bad. I wonder if more people have similar
problem or know possible way to solution.

I would really appreciate your help since we would like to have use of
the hardware.

Thanks.

Honza

P.S. I am not sure if this is the proper newsgroup for this kind of stuff
but I couldn't find anything closer comp.*atm.*.
