1. "Real" Ethernet MTU (Maximum Transfer Unit) is 1514 = 6 (DA) + 6
(SA) + 2 (Type/Length) + 1500 (Data). (You might want to add in the
FCS (CRC) field, which is 4 bytes. Then you get 1518.)

2. Sorry, I don't really remember how Ethernet LANE on ATM works, but
could it be that there is some difference for both 802.3 and v2, i.e.
they can be easily distinguished? So the type/length should not be a
problem.

3. Try also in "comp.dcom.lans.ethernet".
