a second document at which you might want to look is i.366.1
which defines the service specific sar's for aal2.

in a nutshell, aal2 is basically like aal 3/4 with the exception
that data from multiple cid's (the aal 2 equivalent to the mid of
aal 3/4) may be multiplexed into a single atm cell. by
contrast, an atm cell may only contain data from a single
mid in aal 3/4 with cell interleaving of traffic from multiple
mid's into a single atm layer cell stream.

oh yeah, another difference is that aal 2 provides multiple
sscs's so that you can "simplify" the protocol by bypassing
error detection or assured data transfer if you wish to do
so. aal 3/4 also has an optional assured data transfer mode
(although i.363 does not explicitly define the procedure
to be used).
