As long as the disruptions are limited to a day or so here and there, as they
seem to have been, I'd vote against having a moderator. Moderating a news
group is a real labor of love, and in the best of times the moderators
experience burnout sooner than later. There are delays in posting, the
moderator goes on vacation and the news group dies, etc. etc. Also, in this
sort of group that tends not to attract pre-teens with nothing better to do
than disrupting interesting conversations, perhaps a moderator is not so
important in terms of filtering the content of the posts.

If comp.dcom.lans.ethernet can survive without a moderator, this group should
as well. No? That group has its share of pre-teens.
