Mapping of AAL's onto VC's

Hello-

In an ATM system with mixed voice (AAL1 or 2) & data (AAL5), how do people
typically determine which cells are carrying which AAL?

Do people usually map ranges of VP/VC to carry the different AAL's? For
example:

     Lower Upper AAL
---------------------------
VC 0x0000 to 0x00ff: AAL2
VC 0x0100 to 0xffff: AAL5

If such a mapping exists, is it controlled by manual configuration, or
by some signalling/control protocol?

Or is there a way to use the Payload Type field in the cell header to
determine which AAL to use?

Thanks a lot for the info.
Scott
