I believe your problem is from a completely different type. SRTS is an AAL1 mechanism used to provide timing control for a clear channel transported over an ATM connection. It is a connection Mechanism and not a link mechanisme. Link : physical medium between 2 switches. Connection : virtual channel used for transporting information between 2 network endpoints. Most likely the microwave link requires a synchronous timing. This means that one ATM switch (or possibly the MW link) has to provide the clock for the link. Every piece of the link has to hava a master and slave side. ex. +-------+ +------+ +------+ +-------+ | ATM |-M----S-| MW |-M---------S-| MW |-M----S-| ATM | +-------+ +------+ +------+ +-------+ The default configuration on Marconi switches makes them master on all ports. Since ATM is asynchronous this doesn't matter when switches are directly connected. It does matter however when other synchronous equipment is used to connect 2 ATM ports. You can make a port clocking slave as follows. hardware port sonet modify <portnr> -timing network Check the clocking requirement of the radio equipment for selecting master an slave configuration. ( The radio equipment is unknown to me) agallo@foghorn.nit.gwu.edu wrote: > > Question about Synchronous residual Time Stamp (SRTS): is it required for > implementing ATM over DS-3?
