maybe the length of time that has passed trying to solve these issues
is an indication that the protocols under discussion on the table are
really solutions in search of a problem: i suppose it is heresy to
suggest that they are perhaps not the most technically sound mechanisms 
for solving the complex problems that ROLC is addressing but i'll do so
anyway.
