Agreeing with Tom....My understanding is that there are many networks where
they have sophisticated NMS systems. Even the ones that do not have one
yet...are wanting to migrate to a sophisticated NMS system. The more one
wants to do traffic engineering and things like VPN, etc. need for NMS
becomes more pronounced....My one cents worth (smile)...

While a plausable solution, I wouldn't give the impression
that most systems are like this. There are many SP networks that
I know of that are run by much more sophisticated NMS systems
than just scripts. Many of these products are not home-grown
either (i.e.: 3rd parties provide them).
