Q. Won't the overhead to implement tunnels be an issue......... I mean you actually doing it practically so I ask,  when I say overhaed I mean in terms of packet headers, control messaging, and Traffic Engineering aspects point of view ?

Leo,

The most generic way that I know to address no IPv4 protocols is to create
tunnels using ipv4. It works with appletalk, ipx, ipv6 and others. I use
tunnels to implement multicast inside vpn.

I hope it helped!
Marcelo.
