I didn't see GMPLS defined in Ruyter's email, so I'll add the internet-draft
definition (www.ietf.org).

Generalized-MPLS (GMPLS) extends the MPLS control plane to encompass
time-division, wavelength and spatial switching. A functional
description of the extensions to MPLS signaling needed to support
the new types of switching is provided in [GMPLS-SIG]. Along with
the current development of IP over optical switching, there are
considerable developments in optical transport systems based on the
multiple optical switching granularities. [GMPLS-SIG] currently
defines two layers of optical granularity (wavelength and fiber). As
described in [IPO-MG], a revisited definition of waveband switching
must be introduced. This document presents a functional description
of the extensions, to the GMPLS protocol suite, to integrate the
additional requirements of optical multi-granularity and to further
benefit from the features of those switching layers.

Here are some common terms used with reference to MPLS
Perhaps if other guys send in more definitions together we can create our
own glossary

CE	Customer Edge (router)
The term commonly given to the router on the customer site which
interconnects to the service provider for VPN connectivity
COS	Class of Service
The class of service is how traffic within a network is prioritised
LSP	Label Switch Path
The route, which is set up for MPLS traffic between PE router
LSR	Label Switch Router
This is the name given to a core router in an MPLS network
MPLS	Multi-Protocol Label Switching
The theory of switching packets across a network based on a label
 	rather than IP header
P	Provider (router)
The term commonly given to the Providers core MPLS switch router
that
label switches the packets across the core for an MPLS VPN
PE	Provider Edge (router)
The term commonly given to the Providers edge router that connects
to
the CE, holds the VRF and adds the labels for switching across the
core
RD	Route Distinguisher
The tag appended to a route in BGP, which identifies it with a
 	particular CE
VRF	VPN Routing/Forwarding instance
The separate routing and forwarding table, which is held on the PE
router and segregates VPN routes from other VPNs and global routing
 	tables

Subject: MPLS and GPLS "official" or non-official Glossary

Hello All,

I am looking for a glossary of terms for MPLS and GMPLS. Is there an
official one or has there been an attempt to establish one and post it on
the
net so that we can all understand each other better.

Thank you for your help

Yours Truly,
Rick Gallaher
