You have a problem: to implement the MPLS, you need at least a 3 router core: 2 PE-router 1 P-router +2 CE-router MPLS PE takes the incoming packet and push the label, than, the last P does a "penultimate hop popping" by removing the label and pass it to a PE-router as an IP packet. So with 2 PEs only you don't have an MPLS core... Cisco implement MPLS from 2600's family to 12000... I am currently trying to setup a MPLS network in my lab. I have 4 routers, 2 Cisco 3600 series and 2 Cisco 7200 series. Am I able to setup a MPLS system with these element by the following configuration ? CE---PE---PE---CE Which routers should be treated as CE and which as PE? Is this the minimum routers needed to setup a MPLS network? Please give me your advice to enlighten me.
